München, St. Bonifaz, Stiftsbibliothek (D-Mb)

Der Bestand der Musikhandschriften in der Stiftsbibliothek Abtei St. Bonifaz setzt sich aus dem in München angesiedelten Konvent und dem aus dem Kloster Andechs, als angegliedertem Priorat, hinzugekommenen Bestand zusammen. In letzteren eingeschlossen sind zahlreiche Handschriften aus dem Besitz der St. Nikolaus-Anstalt Andechs, einer Erziehungsanstalt, die in den Jahren 1856-1925 bestand. Nur wenige Handschriften stammen dabei aus der Zeit vor der Säkularisation (vor 1803). Der Großteil stammt aus dem 19. Jahrhundert. Hinsichtlich der Dokumentation des Gesamtbestands wurden alle Musikhandschriften, somit auch die aus dem 20. Jahrhundert stammenden katalogisiert. Einzige Ausnahme bildet der Nachlass resp. die Kompositionen von P. Pius Meier (1896–1982, siehe dazu unten, unter Lit. P), welche hier im Katalog fehlen. Wesentliche Vorarbeiten in der Sichtung und Sortierung dieses Bestands unternahm Herr Eric Gross. 1975 bereits sichtete, sortierte und katalogisierte er den gesamten Bestand an Musikalien, also auch Druckwerke. Daraus entstand die Publikation Eric Gross, „Music manuscripts in the library of St. Bonifaz, Munich. A prelimary catalogue“ veröffentlicht in: Miscellanea musicologca, vol. 8 (1975), S. 82-114, worin die ersten 97 Manuskriptnummern enthalten waren. Herr Gross sortierte die Musikalien noch einmal in den Jahren 1981-82 und schloss die Arbeiten 1998 ab. Der 1926 in Wien geborene Musikwissenschaftler und Komponist verstarb am 17. April 2011 in Sydney.

Die Einleitung zu seinem Katalog sei mit großem Dank für seine verdienstvollen Arbeiten hier wiedergegeben: A “preliminary catalogue” of some of the music manuscripts, previously uncatalogued, was published in Miscellanea Musicologica (Adelaide Studies in Musicology), Vol. 8, pp.82-114, Adelaide 1975. As I mentioned in my introductory remarks to that catalogue, I was unable to draw up a complete catalogue of the music holdings at St. Bonifaz during my visit there in 1974, because of shortage of time. During 1981 and 1982 I was able to spend some more time in Munich and was thus able to continue my work. This second Catalogue is the result of that work. Catalogue No. II has been arranged in the following sections:

• A.    (Music Manuscripts) Alphabetical list of composers, with catalogue numbers of their works (including the composers from my “Preliminary Catalogue”)
• A.1    Incipits of some of the manuscripts.
• B.    (Music Prints) Alphabetical list of composers, with catalogue numbers of their works, including catalogue numbers for the separate tables of Beethoven prints, Mozart prints, Pianoforte tutors, Violin tutors, Voice tutors, theory or other instrumental tutors, items of specific German or local Bavarian interest, also Varia (books, catalogues, etc.).
• C.    Alphabetical list of Publishers represented.
• D.    Abbreviations used to indicate some of the publishers represented.
• E.    Music Manuscripts (including Nos. 1-97 which have already appeared in my “Preliminary Catalogue”).
• F.    Music Prints (excluding items included in sections G.-M.) (P)

Because of the presence of numerous bound volumes which contain both manuscripts and prints, some ms. items appear in the “Prints” catalogues and vice versa. Single brackets indicate editorial remarks; double brackets indicate the use of brackets in the actual manuscript or print.

Für die Bearbeitung durch RISM kamen nur die unter E. verzeichneten Musikalien in Frage. Diese umfassten 455 Handschriftennummern mit insgesamt 2291 Titelaufnahmen, die 2011 aufgenommen wurden. Der Katalog der Musikhandschriften wurde als Handexemplar Herrn Abt Johannes am 20.Januar 2012 überreicht.
